getting started
What we support
Everything extynt can do today, so you can check whether something works before you ask. This list comes from the product itself.
Platforms
| Windows | 64-bit Windows 10 (version 1809 or later) and Windows 11. One installer. Windows on ARM is not supported. After Effects 2025 and 2026. |
| macOS | macOS 13.5 or later. One universal installer for Apple silicon and Intel. After Effects 2025 and 2026. |
After Effects 2025 and 2026 can be installed side by side on Windows. extynt keeps each version separate, including the effects it learns for each one. Versions newer than 2026 run, marked experimental.
Project and footage
- Create, rename, move and delete project folders and items. Deleting needs your explicit go-ahead.
- Save the project in place, under a new name, or as the next numbered copy. Saving never throws away unsaved work.
- Start a new project or open another .aep file. Unsaved changes stop it unless you allow discarding them.
- Collect Files: copy footage into a folder and relink it. Image sequences, proxies, fonts and plug-ins are not carried.
- Reduce Project, Remove Unused Footage and Consolidate All Footage. Every item removed or merged is listed on the receipt.
- Import a file, or a numbered image sequence as one item. Replace a footage source, and set or clear a proxy.
- Set how footage is read: frame rate, alpha mode, loop count, pixel aspect and fields.
- Find the scene cuts in a video layer, mark them, split the layer, or split and precompose each scene.
Compositions and project settings
- Create a composition, and change its settings.
- Duplicate a whole composition, with its layers, links, parenting, masks and keyframes.
- Open a composition in the viewer. Save one frame as a full-size PNG.
- Add, replace or clear composition guides.
- Set the project's bit depth, blending and working colour space.
Layers
- Create text, shape, null, camera, light and adjustment layers, and solids. Add footage or a composition as a layer.
- Duplicate a layer. Split a layer at a time, turn audio into keyframes, make shapes from a vector or text layer, or make a null that follows a mask or shape point.
- Precompose layers into one new composition.
- Rename, reorder (top, bottom, or next to another layer), and remove layers. Removing needs your explicit go-ahead.
- Replace what a layer shows, and keep its transforms, effects and keyframes.
- Resize a solid. Shared solids are refused unless you allow changing every use.
- Set layer switches: blend mode, 3D, shy, solo, visibility, lock, motion blur, quality, sampling, frame blending, collapse transformations, guide layer, per-character 3D, adjustment, effects on or off, and label.
- Make a null follow each motion-tracker point that already exists on a layer.
Timing
- Set in and out points, start time and stretch.
- Turn time remapping on or off.
- Reverse a footage or precomp layer, or freeze it on one frame.
Transforms and keyframes
- Set position, scale, rotation, opacity and anchor point, or animate them with keyframes.
- Move the anchor point to the middle of a flat 2D layer without moving it on screen.
- Set keyframe values at times, with interpolation and easing. Easing can be a preset such as ease-in-out, or a cubic-bezier curve.
- Read every keyframe back: time, value, interpolation, easing and tangents.
- Delete keys, move or retime them, scale their spacing, or copy keys between layers and compositions.
- Loop keyframes: cycle, ping-pong, offset or continue.
Text
- Set the text and its settings on a text layer.
- Add text animators with position, colour, stroke, tracking, line spacing, character offset and blur.
- Use range, wiggly or expression selectors, and animate their start, end and offset.
- Make a text layer follow one of its masks, with first and last margins.
Shapes and vector artwork
- Make shape groups with exact paths, fills and strokes.
- Rectangles, ellipses, and stars or polygons.
- Gradient fills and strokes: type, points, highlight, opacity and width.
- Path operators: repeater, trim paths, merge paths, offset paths, pucker and bloat, round corners, twist, wiggle paths, wiggle transform and zig zag.
- Draw complete vector shapes with fill and stroke into a shape layer in one step.
- Turn inline SVG into editable shape layers.
Masks
- Create, change or remove a mask: path, feather, opacity, expansion, mode, inverted, and RotoBezier.
- Animate mask paths and shape paths with keyframes.
Effects, presets and layer styles
- Add an effect, or reuse the one already on the layer. Set its controls to values checked against its range and menu.
- Animate an effect control with keyframes.
- Remove effects, move them up or down the stack, and copy them with their values, keyframes and expressions to another layer or composition.
- Save a layer's effects as an Animation Preset, and apply an installed preset to a layer.
- Add layer styles: drop shadow, glow, stroke, overlays, bevel and satin, and turn them on or off.
Expressions
- Set or clear an expression on a property, a text layer's source text, or an effect control. An expression can be up to 65,536 characters, and the plan shows it before anything runs.
Parenting and track mattes
- Set or clear a layer's parent. The layer stays where it is on screen.
- Set a track matte from an exact layer.
3D, cameras and lights
- Push a camera in or pull it out by a distance to its point of interest.
- Set camera, light and 3D material options.
Audio
- Turn a layer's audio on or off, and set its level.
Puppet pins
- Place and move Puppet pins at exact pixel positions on any layer, and key them. The layer is wrapped in a carrier composition.
Markers
- Add, change or remove comp and layer markers.
Tracking and analysis
- Add Warp Stabilizer or the 3D Camera Tracker to a footage layer. The analysis runs in the background, and extynt cannot see when it finishes.
Essential Graphics
- Expose a property in the Essential Graphics panel, optionally renamed.
- Export a .mogrt file to a path you choose.
Render queue and Media Encoder
- Add a composition to the render queue, and set its output template and path.
- Set output module and render settings, such as format, codec, resize, crop and audio. Each field is read back.
- Channels cannot be set by any tool, so pick an output template with alpha instead.
- Start a render only when you explicitly allow it.
- Send a queued composition to Adobe Media Encoder, and start the queue if you ask. On Windows extynt adds the comp to the render queue, and you send it on with Composition › Add to Adobe Media Encoder Queue, because sending from a plan crashed After Effects 26.5 there.
Effects library
Every current built-in After Effects effect in the catalogue can be added and have its controls set, with the exceptions below. That is 249 effects in these groups.

Exceptions:
- Dropdown Menu Control: extynt cannot confirm it, so add it by hand.
- Cineware (Cinema 4D): it needs its own footage and setup, so set it up by hand.
- Apply Color LUT, Numbers and Mocha AE: they open a dialog that you finish. extynt warns you first.
- Warp Stabilizer and 3D Camera Tracker: they start the analysis. You press the buttons that finish the work.
- Buttons and custom panels inside an effect can only be set by you in After Effects.
Animation Preset control groups (98 of them) add only their controls. Apply the matching preset to get the motion. Older effects are listed as obsolete (46), and kept for old projects. Use the current version where one exists.
Third-party plugins
Plugins installed on your computer are found during discovery, which runs once for each After Effects version when extynt is installed. Once found, they can be used like built-in effects. A plugin that opens its own dialog, such as a LUT picker, still works. extynt warns you first, and you finish the dialog. On Windows, a plugin that tries to listen on the network is kept on your computer during discovery, so Windows does not ask a firewall question.
Models
Bring your own model. Anthropic, OpenAI, Google (Gemini), DeepSeek, xAI, OpenRouter, Ollama for local models, any other OpenAI-compatible endpoint, and any other Anthropic-compatible endpoint. See Models and effort.
MCP
extynt works with any MCP client. It offers a small set of tools, for reading the project, building plans, checking receipts and undoing work. See Tools reference.
Panel
- Undo a whole plan from its entry in the sheet’s Changes.
- Receipts read values back from After Effects after each change, and say which values were checked.
- Approvals, in Settings: only for risky changes (the default), before every change, or never ask. Changes you can undo apply right away. Deleting your work, renders, imports, MOGRT exports and footage replacement wait for you.
- Attach a frame of the open composition to your next message.
- Attach up to 6 PNG, JPEG or WebP images to a message, 5 MB each.
- A long brief is turned into a checklist, and each item is built in turn.
- Choose a fallback model, which is used only when the first one fails. Pause after heavy use is on by default.
- Save the chat log from the Chats view to attach to a bug report. It is a file you save and share yourself.
